On Saturday, October 1st, we attended the American spin-off of the biggest French music festival, Vieilles Charrues.
The original festival began in 1992 in a small Breton village with a gathering of 500 people. The festival has grown in size every year. It now attracts 250,000 music-lovers.
This year, Vieilles Charrues celebrated its 25th anniversary with a special event at Rumsey Playfield, the site of Central Park's SummerStage, located on East 72nd Street & 5th Avenue in Manhattan.
The doors opened at 4 PM, so we had time to explore the park and purchase traditional foods, including galettes made from buckwheat flour with a savory filling as well as crêpes sucrées made from slightly sweetened wheat flour served with Nutella.
The musical lineup featured an eclectic mix of performances by the Avener, Celtic Social Club, Matthieu Chedid (-M-), Alan Corbel, & Krismenn and Alem. We enjoyed listening to the music under the trees and dancing as night fell.
Afterward, we caught a taxi and went to dinner at a local bistro. What a great day!
